Is cherry wood office furniture worth the money?
Question by Mark Phoenix: Is cherry wood office furniture worth the money?
I'm decorating my new office and I have a pretty decent budget for it, now I was thinking about cherry wood office furniture...is it worth it? I've seen it in my friend office and it looks awesome. How hard is it to maintain it? Any tips?

Looks the best of everything. Only thing is it shows dust.

Cherry is no different to maintain than other hardwoods. You do need to worry about damage to the top from ball point pens and other sharp or hard objects. A very large blotter or even a glass top is a good idea.
I have made several pieces of furniture from cherry and it can make beautiful pieces.
Most of the “Cherry” furniture you see is made of the same woods as all the other colors — it only has a cherry colored stain finish. Most “wood” office furnishings (except those costing thousands of dollars) are particle board with thin veneers and polyurethane stain finishes. Real cherry wood would cost you an arm and a leg.
So what you are looking at is no different care-wise than any other stain finish (regular dusting and Pledge). However, being darker, it will show scratches, chips and wear more quickly than lighter colors. The substrate is lighter colored wood and will show through with damage. You can get pens and wipe-on finishes with the stain color in them that you can rub into any scratches to make them less noticable. So, if you tend to be tidy and are careful not to bang it up, buy the cherry finish if you like it.
Cherry wood is very durable and if you give it a proper care it will last forever. It is a bit expensive, but it makes up for it with it’s exclusivity and durability. Of course, as any other wood furniture, it demands a good care. t is more prone to scratches than other wood.
If you ever get a scratch, rub the area with a cotton swab dipped in a half alcohol and half iodine. Water rings can be removed by using a blotting sheet over the mark and then ironing it out.

The thing is.. cherry is nice. However, it depends if you have good quality furniture. Make sure it is solid hardwood!!!
